We start the pit at four in the morning and sell until it's gone, which on Saturdays is usually before three. Call ahead for anything over five plates.

About the pit

Wendell Tolbert opened on South Main in 2009. It's a hickory pit, not a gas cooker, which is why we start at four in the morning and why we run out.

Catering is pork, chicken or brisket by the pan, with sides. We've done church suppers, ball teams and weddings. Give us three days' notice and a headcount.

We take cash and card. There's parking behind the building and a window for call-ahead pickup.
